Kaleidoscope: Exploring the Power of Color

An Artistic Journey by Tsutomu Fujishima

This project takes inspiration from the vibrant colors of "rlung rta" in Tibet, using them to create a visual representation of the world. Each color represents an element that forms our world, and when combined, they create a powerful and harmonious space.

Tsutomu Fujishima's "Kaleidoscope" is a unique art project that explores the power and energy of color. The project consists of five individual paintings, each representing one color - blue, white, red, green, and yellow. These colors symbolize the elements of the world - sky, wind, fire, water, and ground. By combining these paintings, Fujishima creates a complete world filled with vibrant energy.

What sets "Kaleidoscope" apart is Fujishima's approach to expressing the essence of each color. Rather than depicting realistic landscapes, he simplifies the lines and shapes, capturing the impression and energy of the land. The use of paper-cutting techniques adds depth and dimension to the artwork, creating a three-dimensional effect.

The technical specifications of "Kaleidoscope" are as follows: each painting measures 475mm in width and 340mm in height. When displayed together, they create a visually striking and immersive experience. The project was produced in 2015 and has been exhibited in Tokyo, Japan, as well as the Italia Bologna Children's Book Fair in 2016.

Fujishima's research for this project focused on the combination of colors and the abstract expression of landscapes. He aimed to maximize the power of beauty by reducing the complexity of color and form. The result is a series of paintings that evoke a sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty found in nature.

One of the challenges Fujishima faced during the creation of "Kaleidoscope" was capturing the transparency of the white color. To overcome this, he used the shadow of the paper-cutting technique to add a three-dimensional impression to the white areas.

Recognized for its innovation and artistic excellence, "Kaleidoscope" was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate practicality, innovation, and professional quality. Fujishima's artwork stood out for its ability to integrate industry best practices while creating a visually stunning and emotionally fulfilling experience.

Experience the power of color and embark on a journey through the elements with Tsutomu Fujishima's "Kaleidoscope." Let the vibrant hues and harmonious compositions transport you to a world filled with energy and beauty.
